COMPUTING CURRICULUM DEVELOPER AND EDUCATOR, Comparative Media Studies-MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program (MIT STEP), to join a project team developing curriculum and materials which integrate learning about computing and AI into schools in the Boston area and internationally. Will curate existing resources and create original computing curriculum for integration into grades 5-8, help prepare teachers to use these materials, and collaborate with a diverse team spread across multiple MIT labs.  Responsibilities include researching standards and definitions to determine outcomes by grade for learning about computing; finding existing open curriculum and curriculum ideas and sequencing them; developing new curriculum where existing curriculum does not exist; developing curriculum modules which meaningfully integrate CS concepts and skills into traditionally non-technology heavy curricula and project-based learning; finding connections between fundamental computing curriculum and AI curriculum being developed in other labs; collaborating with and training pilot teachers to use the materials, collecting feedback, and revising the curriculum; and supporting other efforts as the project evolves.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s degree in education, computer science, or closely related field; three years’ related experience; experience with curriculum development, creating learning opportunities that work in diverse environments, engaging with diverse students including those with special needs, and working with a variety of computing tools including blocks and text; deep understanding of computer science and computational thinking; ability to plan, prioritize, and self-manage daily tasks; strong writing and communication skills; and some experience with layout and publishing.  

PREFERRED: published curriculum materials used by other teachers; and experience with data science, research in computer science education, and planning/leading teacher professional development courses.  Job #18687

This is a temporary, three-year position with the possibility of renewal depending on funding.
