Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Pathology is searching for a full-time faculty member at any rank. The appointee will be responsible for transfusion services of adult and pediatric patients, a hospital-based blood donor center, a Level 1 Trauma Center and therapeutic apheresis as well as cellular collections. The appointee will work closely with providers in hematology, oncology, stem cell transplantation, neurology, obstetrics, anesthesiology, cardiothoracic and trauma surgery; offer medical oversight to all medical, technical and regulatory processes and procedures including quality assurance; promote and provide leadership for process improvement and blood utilization. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

The University of Chicago has 811 pediatric and adult in-patient beds, and currently transfuses over 35,000 components and performs 1100 pheresis procedures annually.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) board certified or eligible in Blood Banking / Transfusion Medicine through the American Board of Pathology.
