Research Fellow - ARC - Dynamic deep learning electricity demand farecasting

  • Full-time, 1-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension; based at RMIT City campus but may be required to work and/or based at other campuses of the University
  • Open to experience researchers with expertise in machine learning, time series analysis and/or statistical learning theory
  • Opportunities to undertake high quality research activities funded by the Australian Research Council through collaboration with wider research teams and industry partners
  • Report to the Professor Elena Pirogova, Associate Dean, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering and Dr Mahdi Jalili, Research Supervisor (Project Leader)
  • Remuneration at Academic Level B ($96,564 - $ 114,672) + 17% superannuation

About You and the Role

In this role, you will work independently as well as collaboratively with the team of national and international researchers in contributing to quality research publications in high impact journals focusing on the research and development activities of deep learning applications in electricity demand forecasting. You will actively contribute in preparing and submitting competitive research grant proposals and applications in particularly targeting Category 1 outcomes. In addition, you are required to contribute 10% of your time to mentor & supervise postgraduate students and participate in learning program activities in appropriate to areas of expertise.

You will have:

  • Excellent track record of published research work in machine learning, data analytics, time series analysis and modelling and deep neural networks in top journals & conferences
  • Capability to communicate and present research findings, concepts and knowledge with sound problem-solving & analytical skills
  • Ability to manage and plan time effectively and efficiently to conduct innovative research independently and collaboratively across multi-disciplinary team, industry and government to achieve project demands and outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience co-supervising postgraduate by research students and the ability to teach in the relevant areas of expertise

Qualifications

PhD qualification in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.

Mandatory: Candidate with experience in machine learning, time series analysis and/or statistical learning theory is highly regarded
