About the opportunity 

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for two new positions: Perovskite Solar Cell Research Fellow & Perovskite Optoelectronics Research Fellow to work within the Perovskite research group led by Prof. Anita Ho-Baillie – John Hooke Chair of Nanoscience based at the Sydney Nano Hub, University of Sydney.

The Perovskite research group aims to advance breakthroughs with the aim of dramatically increasing the performance of the state of the art perovskite-based solar cells and optoelectronic devices including tandem solar cells (perovskite-perovskite tandem or perovskite-Si tandem solar cells), large area solar cells or modules, optoelectronics (e.g., LED's (including IR and UV), nanowire lasers, memristorfor applications in optics, telecommunications, sterilization, on-chip devices and neural networks.).

The successful appointee will be responsible for the design and demonstration of high-performance perovskite devices listed above, work collaboratively with other team members within Ho-Baillie’s research group at the University of Sydney, as well as liaising with collaborative research partners

Key responsibilities will include:

  • developing process sequence, characterisation of techniques and advanced measuring methods for high performance perovskite devices
  • developing encapsulation technologies for independent certification when required
  • working closely with other team members on establishing and maintaining safety and laboratory best practice protocols
  • Working with other team members on managing and maintaining operations of the laboratory
  • exploring new research opportunities and assisting in developing new research proposals
  • assisting in intellectual property protection and assisting in liaising with industry partners for technology transfer
  • building and expanding new research collaboration opportunities
  • preparation of manuscript for publication in high impact scientific journals
  • preparation of presentations related to perovskite tandem research
  • assisting in the supervision of undergraduate, masters and PhD students within Ho-Baillie’s group

About you

  • A PhD in physics, chemistry, photovoltaics, materials science or other closely-related science or engineering subjects.
  • a strong scientific background with hands-on experience in fabrication and characterisations of perovskite-based solar cells or opto-electronic devices
  • a strong track record of demonstrating and reporting innovative optoelectronic or solar-cell design and device modelling reflected by high quality journal publications
  • proven excellence in communication skills, collaborating with research partners including industry partners, suppliers, and manufacturers
  • proven ability to independently plan and conduct high level research for generating outcome for high quality journal publications
  • proven proficiency in various software - data analytics and modelling is required for this project
  • ability to demonstrate, fabricate and characterise high performance devices including ability to commence preliminary work for proof of concept.
  • proven knowledge and skills of solar cell and optoelectronic device fundamentals, device modeling and device characterisation
  • (desirable, not essential) experience with 2D perovskite, lead free, Cs based or all inorganic, perovskite-perovskite tandem or perovskite-Si tandem, large area solar cells or modules, IR LED's or UV LED's
