Job Details

The School of Biological Sciences invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

The objective of the project the candidate will work on is to develop a coarse-grained (CG) model of the nucleosome and chromatin based on atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of DNA and peptides mimicking the histone tails of the nucleosome. The CG model will be used for large scale simulation of nucleosome core particle phase separation as validation before the next step to study chromatin folding and self-association.

Responsibilities

  • Run simulations on remote clusters and analyse the data
  • Write scripts to run these simulations
  • Gather data from underlying CGMD simulations and run analysis on it
  • Present results in conferences and group meetings
  • Write grant applications

Requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences
  • PhD candidates who are about to submit thesis for examination or have submitted thesis for defence are also welcome to apply
  • Minimum 4 years of research experience in computational modelling for DNA compaction
  • Research experience in molecular simulations of biomolecules
  • Sound knowledge in data science and conducting data analysis
  • Ability to communicate major elements of experimental design and results to other staff, management and visitors
  • Knowledge of scientific software like Phyton, R, LaTex, C++ and Linux will be an added advantage
  • Must be an effective team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work in a team as well as independently without supervision
  • Willing to work under intense pressure and meeting tight deadlines

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
