Position Focus:

Oversees data management for multiple NIDA and other NIH funded research studies related to the intersection of medication-assisted therapy for substance use and infectious diseases. Responsibilities include data analysis, quality assurance (e.g., quality of data entry; accurate scoring of questionnaires), developing, editing, and overseeing databases and data collection mechanisms using REDCap and other systems. The Data Manager will review, validate and merge collected data in various forms (interviews, lab data, etc.), from different sources. They will coordinate data transfers to other study staff and collaborators and work closely with study biostatisticians. They will participate in general project coordination activities as needed including but not limited to: oversight of daily operations and research assistants; liaison with collaborators and community partners.

Conducts statistical analyses and develops programming strategies in support of multiple research studies. Analyzes research issues from the problem identification phase through development of statistical programs. Produces, reviews, and revises data management and data analysis plans, and study metadata. Responsible for knowing appropriate data storage rules and regulations. Contributes to data management and analysis sections of IRB protocols. Takes the lead on study progress reports, including creating enrollment tables, descriptive statistics, and relevant analyses. Contributes to, writes and finalizes manuscripts for publication and to present at local, national and international scientific meetings and conferences.

Oversees student and postgraduate researchers, ensuring that they receive and use the appropriate data, methods, and analyses for publications and conferences.

The primary duties of this position require intellectual ability such as knowledge of research methods, study design, epidemiology, biostatistics, data integrity, database development and management, data analysis, human subject issues, contract and grant submission and reporting to funders, and management ability. This position also requires epidemiologic and statistical knowledge including study design such as prospective cohort studies, and clinical and behavioral epidemiologic methods.

Essential Duties

  1. Oversees the execution and implementation of detailed project plans in concert with stakeholders.
  2. Manages several routine projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation and prioritization objectives are met.
  3. Assists in refining and re-sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned projects, as needed.
  4. Works closely with business analysts, technical professionals, end users and project stake holders during the requirements, solutions design and implementation phases to develop detailed project plans for implementation.
  5. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria.
  6. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion.
  7. Manages client expectations and provides issue/risk identification and escalation pathways.
  8. May supervise the implementation team of cross-functional project and technical resources.
  9. Designs, develops, and executes communication systems to ensure effective exchange of information between project stakeholders, senior management, and staff.
  10. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations.
  11. Complies with standard policies and procedures.
  12. May supervise and train junior project managers.
  13. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated experience with SAS, REDCap, and Excel. Experience working with data from multiple sources and merging data.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Previous data management experience.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to work with large, complex data sets.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Experience writing, drafting and editing manuscripts for publication to scientific journals. Ability to design and conduct presentations.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Mature and reliable with the ability to produce accurate work, work independently, effectively and efficiently under pressure, and to multitask, juggling competing research demands with limited supervision.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology or relevant field (Public Health) and two years of experience.
