Post-doctoral position in Protein Engineering available immediately at the Bristol School of Biochemistry and the Synthetic Biology Centre, BrisSynBio, a leading UK and international centre of excellence (www.bristol.ac.uk/brissynbio). As part of a dynamic team, you will utilize state-of-the-art selection/evolution technology (Ribosome Display) to generate high-affinity binders from a naïve library that neutralise snake venom toxins. This project is an international collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liege, Belgium and University of Aix-Marseille, France to develop new, safe and efficient antivenom to treat snakebites. Experience with display techniques, protein expression and purification, biochemical and biophysical analysis is essential. Experience with protein engineering, RNA isolation and preparation, and/or current molecular biology methods (e.g. Gibson, redET) is a definite plus. A PhD (awarded or imminent) in Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related subject is essential.
You will be based in the Berger-Schaffitzel (lead) and Berger laboratories in a highly collaborative setup, including collaboration with Robert Harrison (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine) for pre-clinical validation using cell-based assays and murine models.
