Contract Type: Fixed-term Head of Department role for 5 years and thereafter a Professorial role within the Department.

Working arrangements: The role is full time but we will consider requests for flexible working arrangements including potential job shares

Salary Range: Grade 10 Competitive salary based on our professorial Pay Scales (starting at £64,606 and going considerably higher based on experience)

Start Date: Successful candidates will ideally be in post by 1 October 2020, but this is negotiable

The Department of Chemistry at Durham University seeks to appoint an accomplished individual to the role of Professor and Head of Department. We welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests intersect and complement those of colleagues already in the Department. Research in the Department broadly covers the themes of: Manufacturing the Future; New Materials; and Bio-Economy. Specific research activities are grouped under: bioactive chemistry and synthesis; catalysis and sustainable processes; computational chemistry and dynamics; functional molecules and materials; physical organic chemistry and assembly; soft matter and interfaces.

Applicants must demonstrate research excellence in the field of Chemistry, broadly understood, with the ability to take a leading role in the development of the Department's research and teaching, and to fully engage in the services, citizenship and values of the University. As Head of Department and Chair of the Board of Studies they will further develop and implement the Department's strategy to enhance research and educational excellence.
