FULL-TIME LECTURER IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is a Vietnamese state university. Founded in 2008, VGU is a joint venture based on a close cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with the goal of becoming the leading research university in Vietnam and the region. VGU´s strategy is to customize excellent German study programs in the fields of engineering, natural sciences and economics to meet the needs of Vietnamese higher education. VGU follows the successful German model and standards concerning the academic and administrative structures.

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking 02 highly qualified full-time lecturers in Computer Science. Candidates must hold a PhD in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes.

Job Description

Candidates will teach in and contribute to the development of VGU’s Computer Science (CS) curricula (Bachelor and Master level). They should be able to teach at least two out of the following four subjects: Databases, Operating Systems, Distributed Systems and Computer Networks. Moreover, teaching of fundamental subjects is also required.

This position is also responsible for supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses and mentoring PhD students.

The successful candidates will also contribute to the research group in Information Technology and Computer Science. The ability to obtain funding for research from funding agencies and companies by addressing current needs in the industry/governments (cities, provinces) in Vietnam is highly desirable.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the CS program by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the program in consultation with the study program coordinator and the German partners, namely the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, University of Applied Sciences Cologne and University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg.

Qualification

Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field preferably from a well-known international university and have a strong track record of successful research in an area such as, but not limited to, e.g., Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, IoT (Edge Computing, Cloud, Blockchain), Cyber Security, Databases, Biosystems and Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Systems and Networking, Software Engineering or Sensor Networks.

For senior lecturers we expect proven teaching experience and publications in international peer-reviewed journals which are well recognized in the research field of the candidate.

The teaching language is English, proficiency in this language is required.
