Organic Chemistry Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Lecturer Position

Launched in 2012, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) offers a unique model of higher education in partnership with Kean University, a comprehensive, public university in the state of New Jersey.  WKU is approved by the Ministry of Education of China and is approved as an additional instructional site of Kean University by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.  Wenzhou-Kean University sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres, currently enrolls 2,500 undergraduate students and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 7,000 students within the next six years. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean University. In addition to its current 18 undergraduate programs, WKU has been approved to offer 8 Master’s and 3 Doctorate programs. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced cities on China's East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai.   

About the Job:

This full-time position will start fall 2020. This position will be offered at the rank of tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor or at the Lecturer level. The tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position is a 10-month tenure-track appointment that requires research and publications in internationally recognized and vigorously peer-reviewed journals in the field.

Tenure-track faculty will be required to teach 24 credits per year, and course release is available for significant research initiatives (i.e. research grant proposal development). The Lecturer position is a 12-month non-tenure track appointment and may be renewed on an annual basis. The Lecturer candidate will be required to teach 39 credit hours per year.

The successful candidate will be required to teach lecture and lab instruction classes in Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry to either science or non-science major students.  The candidate will be expected to participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including high quality teaching, research, curriculum development, program assessment, student recruitment and advisement, senior project supervision, service to the university and/or professional community. Tenure track faculty must have an on-going agenda for student engaging research and are expected to publish research outcomes in well-recognized journals and acquire external grants to support research program. Start-up grant is available to tenure track faculty for starting a research program.

All faculty may be required to teach General Education courses as needed. Opportunities are also available to teach disciplinary support courses. Candidates with an interest in teaching across disciplines are encouraged to apply. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field is required.  ABD can be considered with completion prior to the effective date of employment.  Records of excellent teaching and research in Organic Chemistry are required. A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and English fluency are required for the position.

Faculty positions at WKU offer:

  • Annual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience with the range from $62,000-$70,000 for lecturers; $65,000-$73,000 for Assistant Professors; $73,000-$82,000 for Associate Professors.
