A thriving metropolis of over 20 million people bordering Hong Kong, Shenzhen has often been referred to as the “Silicon Valley of China” with strong telecommunication, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. Widely regarded as a pioneer of higher-education reform in China, SUSTech aims to become a top-tier international university that excels in interdisciplinary research, talent development and knowledge discovery. In the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World Universities Rankings 2019, SUSTech was included for the first time and ranked as the 8th among the mainland China universities. Internationalization is a hallmark of SUSTech where English is a primary instructional language.

The SUSTech | School of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE) (http://ese.sustc.edu.cn/en/) was established in May 2015. The mission of ESE is to become: an innovative training ground for cultivating top talent in environmental fields; an international center of excellence for environmental research; a leading platform for innovation and industrialization of advanced environmental protection technologies; and an influential think-tank for environmental sustainability. Currently, ESE has over 50 full-time faculty and research staff, including the recipients of numerous national and international awards and honors. ESE is organized into three broadly-defined groups (programs): Environmental Science/Engineering/Health; Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering; Global Environmental Change and Management. The school is home to the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Integrated Surface Water-Groundwater Pollution Control as well as the Shenzhen Institute of Sustainable Development.

Applications are invited for faculty positions at all ranks. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, watershed hydrology and biogeochemistry, soil and groundwater contamination and remediation, environmental health risk assessment and interventions, environmental microbiology and biotechnology, atmospheric chemistry and air pollution control, solid waste recycling and management, remote sensing of the environment, macroecology and biodiversity, global change and environmental sustainability. ESE is planning to fill additional two dozen tenure-track/tenured positions over the next 3-4 years to enhance and expand existing faculty and research strengths. Globally competitive (including US and Hong Kong) salaries and benefit packages will be offered. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in environmental science and engineering, earth and atmospheric sciences, or related disciplines. Post-doctoral experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must have a proven and consistent track record of high-quality scientific publications and good communication skills.
