Job Description Summary

The large animal attendant is responsible for caring for the Hofmann Center horses as well as the client owned animals, predominantly horses. The large animal attendants will observe each of the Hofmann Center horses daily for healthy demeanor. They will also feed and administer medications as needed. They will clean and maintain the outdoor facilities that house the resident horses. For the client owned animals, the attendants will feed, clean and disinfect stalls, administer medications and turn the horses out into paddocks for daily exercise. The attendants will be responsible for handling stallions during semen collection, live cover breeding and fertility workups. The attendants will participate in the administration of the herd health program for the resident horses. This includes assisting with vaccination, deworming and hoof trimming. The animal attendants will also maintain the cleanliness of the reproduction center as well as the grounds (ie.cutting grass, weed wacking and gardening). The attendants will assist with the setup and cleanup of student laboratories.

Job Description

The animal attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the reproduction center as well as the grounds (ie.cutting grass, weed-wacking and gardening).  The attendant will also help with the setup and cleanup for teaching labs. The attendant will care for Hofmann Center horses (feeding, cleaning run-in-sheds, cleaning waterers , checking enclosures for safety, daily herd check). The attendant will care for the client horses (feeding, cleaning stalls, disinfecting stalls, administering medication, holding animals for procedures). The attendant will handle stallions for semen collection and reproduction work-ups. The attendant will also assist with the administration of the herd health program (holding horses for farrier, administration of vaccines/dewormers).

A Level  HS graduate or equivalent, preferred.  Experience working with large animals.  A valid driver’s license is required.  Must be able to perform strenuous work and tolerate exposure to chemicals, allergens, etc.  Attention to detail a priority. Must have good communication skills.  Position located in Kennett Sq., no public trans. avail.
B level Same as above, and 2 - 3 years of experience.
