The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at HBKU aims to deliver innovative programs that meet educational needs in the fields of humanities and social sciences for Qatar and the region. 

Positions

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) invites applications for an open-field Professorship in Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will have long-standing professional experience and a dynamic and innovative research agenda, as evidenced through an internationally recognized, strong record of peer-reviewed publications. The candidate will work closely with other programs within the college, and with national, regional and international partners and stakeholders. The candidate should have extensive experience in institutional development and administration.

The candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses at graduate level, applying a range of methodologies for teaching and assessment, contribute to all levels of curriculum development in the area(s) of specialty including the development of the interdisciplinary Doctorate in Humanities and Social Sciences. The candidate will also supervise MA and PhD students, should be committed to research-based teaching and learning, and the integration of professional practice into classroom activities, encouraging students to analyze and reflect in any field in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda and participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, experienced, and internationally recognized scholar with a very strong record of publications, and funding/grant acquisition. Candidates with research expertise in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply: Translation Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Digital Humanities, Culture and Heritage, Sociology, or Intercultural Communication. The candidate will be expected to contribute to a wide range of leadership tasks at a strategic level. The candidate needs to be fluent in English, and preferably a language or languages of the region.

Required Qualifications & Skills for Faculty Positions

The candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses at MA and PhD level, applying a range of methodologies for teaching and assessment, contribute to all levels of curriculum development in the area(s) of specialty.

  • The candidate will also supervise M.A. and Ph.D. students. 
  • Should be committed to research-based teaching and learning and the integration of professional practice into classroom activities. 
  • The candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda and participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives.
  • The successful candidate will be a dynamic, experienced, and internationally recognized scholar of with a very strong record of publications and funding/grant acquisition. 
  • The candidate will be expected to contribute to a wide range of leadership tasks at a strategic level
  • Ph.D. in any field within the humanities or social sciences.
  • Demonstrate fluency in English, and preferably a language or languages of the region.
