PROGRAMMES   

The Programme Director will be responsible for the academic oversight, running and coordination of our student mobility programmes, including responsibility for academic quality of provision of the programme(s). The larger programme focus, The N.U.in Program, is a 14 week long programme which offers first year Northeastern students the opportunity to take a range of experiential courses over a variety of subjects and to have an international experience. The programme runs in several countries, including England. Other NU programmes at NCH include a one semester long programme which focuses on experiential learning, and a two semester programme providing students with an opportunity to study in the UK before progressing their studies in Boston.  
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Leadership & Management 

  • Oversees the academic development and delivery of a programme or programmes, working with wider academic and professional colleagues to refine and formalise 

PROGRAMME DIRECTOR  
 
academic roles, policies, and processes so as to uphold academic standards and an excellent, integrated, student academic experience. 

  • Collaborates closely with the Operational Lead and Dean for Academic Development & Innovation to foster and facilitate a supportive environment for all faculty and professional staff with responsibilities to the programme(s).
  • Informs and inducts Course Leaders and other faculty onto the programme(s), coordinating with them to ensure academic coherence and quality both in advance and across delivery. 
  • Leads on the delivery of programmes of training and ongoing advice and guidance for faculty, to ensure a good quality and consistent service for students 
  • Produces or updates student and faculty handbooks and other programme documentation for approval or modification. 
  • Ensures that course syllabi, timetables, and VLE pages supplied by Faculties align with programme requirements, initiating adjustments and sharing good practice as appropriate. 
  • Holds regular meetings with Course Leaders and other faculty and professional staff, to ensure appropriate programme-level information sharing and discussion takes place. 
  • Initiates Head of Faculty involvement where performance management of Course Leaders or instructors is required. 
  • Provides ambassadorial, recruitment, and marketing input for the programme as required (e.g. inducting visiting faculty or participating in outreach and pre-departure events). 

Learning & Teaching 

  • Manages the academic experience of students on the programme(s) (e.g. welcoming and inducting them before the start of the semester, overseeing a spread of occasional academically-orientated extra-curricular events where appropriate, holding weekly Programme Director office hours where appropriate, and being responsive to student emails and concerns). 
  • Participates in programme appeals processes and adjudicates and advises in programme-relevant areas of course-leader disagreement. 
  • Initiates, and participates in, Programme Review meetings and processes at regular intervals, completing associated paperwork and initiating actions as appropriate. 

 PROGRAMME DIRECTOR  

  • Where possible and appropriate, delivers a core course / teaching as part of the programme(s) to further ensure contact with students and awareness of their needs. 

Citizenship 

  • Leading by example, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring there is a collegiate working environment within and that all policies relating to dignity, respect and wellbeing are adhered to. 
  • The post holder will be expected to be responsive to change in order to support the activities and initiatives of the College. This may include providing cover and support for colleagues where appropriate and necessary. 
  • Associated contributions as required, including providing support, where workload allows, to other Programme Directors and Deans, in preparation for other programmes. 

Person Specification 

  • PhD and/or appropriate qualifications and significant experience in leadership and management 
  • Demonstrable experience of learning, teaching, pedagogy and scholarship in areas relevant to the Programme(s). STEM subject experience is desirable 
  • Experience of nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including partner university  
  • Experience of mobility programmes and an international student-body 
  • Experience of successfully coordinating a diverse team of staff
  • Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning, teaching and scholarship 
  • Experience of designing effective academic provision which effectively delivers integrated curricula and assessment, ideally within a programme setting 
  • The ability to engage confidently and competently with academic and wider professional communities and the willingness to participate in engagement activities which develop the reputation of the relevant programme within the sector 
  • Experience of active contribution to academic administration including an understanding of the regulations, guidelines and/or codes of practice which relate to the role, and the implications of non-compliance 

PROGRAMME DIRECTOR  

  • Working knowledge of the work of others inside/outside of the University relevant to the subject area and/or programme 
  • Proven ability to foster and embed a strong student-focused culture in a programme  
  • Knowledge of managing budgets
