Lecturer in Veterinary Science (Production Animal Management)

Starting salary: Grade 7a £35,844 - £41,526
Grade 8 £42,793 - £51,034

The Harper and Keele Veterinary School is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced veterinary surgeon or pre-clinical scientist with a specialism in the management and health of production animals. Reporting to the Director of Veterinary Education, the appointee will support the design and delivery of the first year of the veterinary programme.  The role will include the coordination resources to underpin the delivery of a contemporary production animal-focused curriculum, which will require the post holder to liaise with the managers of the Harper Adams production animal resources, academic colleagues at Harper Adams and Keele universities and a wide practice partner network.

A unique partnership between two outstanding universities, the Harper and Keele Veterinary School brings together two distinctive institutions with a track record of excellence in teaching and student experience to provide an exciting new opportunity for veterinary students to train within rural Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Pooling the ambitions, experience and resources of both universities, the Harper and Keele Veterinary School will represent a unique step forward in the provision of veterinary medicine in the UK. We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of Harper and Keele Veterinary School students in 2020.

Together Keele and Harper Adams universities have 186 years of heritage in the animal and human health areas. Both institutions are recognised for their strengths in employability, student satisfaction and first-class teaching and have a shared commitment to research in food security and sustainability. Set on a 635 hectare farm in Shropshire, Harper Adams University has a long pedigree in agriculture and animal sciences, supported by first class animal facilities; veterinary nursing and veterinary physiotherapy.

Keele University in nearby Staffordshire is a broad-based research-intensive university with sustained excellence in life sciences as well as home to a highly successful medical school, frequently ranked among the UK's top ten. The joint veterinary school will provide students with the opportunity to take advantage of both institutions with a common commitment to excellence and complementary skills.

The appointee will be expected to role-model the School’s commitment to widening access to the veterinary profession for students from all backgrounds and to embrace and engage in the School’s culture of innovation in teaching and learning.

Although the appointee will be primarily based at either the Harper Adams University or the Keele University campus, this role will require regular travel between campuses for lecture delivery and administrative duties.

Please note this appointment is subject to medical clearance by Occupational Health.

The Harper & Keele Veterinary School is committed to operating flexible working practices wherever possible.

The Harper & Keele Veterinary School values equality and diversity across our workforce and to ensuring our staff community is reflective of the diversity of our student population. In support of these commitments we welcome applications from individuals of Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds for all roles.

Company

Keele University was founded more than 60 years ago on the belief that they met the demands of a new kind of society, economy and world. The university feels these principles resonate now more than ever.

Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, Keele is the largest campus based university and has a cosmopolitan community, with more than 150 clubs and societies to join, as well as shops, cafes, bars, an award-winning Students’ Union and a health centre.

Keele University delivers a range of academic courses and research across a variety of subjects, from health and humanities to social and natural sciences. They teach in small groups, provide one-to-one access to their academics and value the quality of their teaching as highly as their research.

Over the last decade, the university has invested over £140 million into the campus, including a £2.7 million transformation at the centre of campus. The university offers more than 3,000 bedrooms on campus and is hoping to increase this to over 4,000 over the next few years.

Keele University successively ranks at the very top of student satisfaction surveys.

Whatever your area of study, their distinctive and flexible approach to teaching and learning will open your mind to challenge and build a broader based knowledge.
