STAFF ACCOUNTANT, ACCOUNTS PAYABLEOffice of the Vice President for Finance (VPF)-Accounts Payable (AP), to provide support for AP’s daily operations.  Will provide excellent customer service to the MIT community for AP-related issues for account feeds and processes. Responsibilities include performing month-end close activities for assigned accounts; serving on the customer service team and ensuring that telephone calls and emails are handled in a timely manner; researching issues, determining the cause of problems, and resolving or escalating as appropriate; analyzing data in financial reports and summarize findings; verifying and entering invoices and ensuring accuracy in accordance with VPF policies and procedures; informing members of the MIT community on accounting policies and procedures; serving as a back-up for the AP team in order to issue fast turnaround checks, payment runs, electronic requests for payment, file feeds and outgoing wire payments; and handling other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least one year of experience in financial operations, preferably in accounting or account reconciliation; ability to pay close attention to details while manage multiple tasks under strict deadlines; demonstrated collaborative, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; initiative and self-motivation; and adaptability/flexibility. Seek a proactive, customer-service oriented individual who is able to exercise good judgment, work as part of and add value to a team, identify and escalate problems/issues as they arise, manage assigned workload with minimal supervision, take ownership of and responsibility for tasks, and deliver assignments on time.

PREFERRED: general knowledge of accounting rules, experience in higher education accounting, and experience with SAP and database applications. Job #18670-6
