TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, McGovern Institute for Brain Research-Jazayeri Lab, to contribute to multidisciplinary research on the neural basis of cognition in humans and animal models. Will be responsible for animal-related functions such as purchasing, care, training, behavioral testing, structural MRI scanning, pre- and post-surgical preparations, anesthesia, care of animals when other caregivers are away; wet-lab related functions including purchasing and maintaining equipment and inventory of chemical and biological materials; management functions such as developing standardized protocols, facilitating ongoing research of other lab members, training new members, purchasing equipment and consumables, keeping the research areas clean, and enforcing environmental health and safety; administrative functions such as scheduling meetings, organizing events and guest visits, managing lab finances, handling travel reimbursements and calendars, proofreading and grant and manuscript revisions, handling mail, and other related tasks; and building relationships and working effectively with colleagues and staff at McGovern and across MIT.
The position may offer an opportunity to participate in research projects, depending on experience, aptitude, and willingness to learn.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (master’s preferred) in neuroscience, biology, psychology, biomedical engineering, or related field; at least two years’ relevant experience; comfort working with animals; strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills; basic computer skills and familiarity with Dropbox, Microsoft Word, and Google Docs; self-motivation; and ability to work independently and collaboratively and juggle the dynamic events that occur in an energetic, fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment. After an initial learning and adaptation period, must be able to perform the enlisted functions with little or no help. Experience with animal care highly desirable. Job #18413
There will be occasional monitoring and care of animals in the evenings and on weekends.
