An opportunity exists within the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences, for a PhD qualified research scientist with specialised skills in retinal disease.

The Research Fellow will undertake research within a growing team that is funded by a recently awarded NHMRC grant. The project is led by Professor Jennifer Wilkinson-Berka with collaborators within the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. The project is focused on evaluating the contribution of inflammatory pathways to the pathogenesis of vision-threatening retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy. The Research Fellow will be expected to have previous experience evaluating retinal pathology, molecular biology, imaging and flow cytometry, and carry out other duties, including writing high-quality journal publications, writing ethics applications, writing grant applications to external funding agencies, submitting abstracts and full-length papers to national and international conferences. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to interact and collaborate actively with investigators from multiple sites both nationally and internationally. The applicant is also expected to mentor PhD and undergraduate research students.
