The University of Liverpool

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Environment (0.5 FTE)

Salary negotiable

The Faculty of Health & Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool is one of UK's leading centres for health and life science research and education. The Faculty is the only organisation of its kind to offer scientific and clinical education that spans the full range of biosciences, clinical medicine, health sciences, dentistry, veterinary science and tropical medicine.

Last year the Faculty commenced with consultation concerning an ambitious programme of change to restructure the Faculty in order to help the University deliver on the aspirations and objectives as described in the University of Liverpool’s Strategy 2026.

The structure of the new Faculty will centre around four new academic Institutes which will combine and complement existing areas of strength in both teaching and research. The Institutes will be supported by four new enabling Directorates: Research and Impact Directorate, Clinical Directorate, Education Directorate and Infrastructure and Environment Directorate.

The Faculty is now seeking to appoint an Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Infrastructure & Environment. This role will lead the newly formed Faculty Directorate, to provide greater coordination, leadership and oversight, in the development of the Faculty’s technology, infrastructure and environment and the teams that support it.

The role will improve the transparency of decision making with regard to the Faculty’s infrastructure and associated capital investment, and will develop and lead the directorate strategic plan to ensure that the Faculty’s shared research facilities and technical and scientific workforce continue to develop and help the Faculty to remain at the forefront of new technologies.

The role will champion the development of the Faculty environment, physical and cultural, in areas such as Team Science, Equality and Diversity, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support and improve all aspects of the Faculty research and education strategies.

The successful applicant will demonstrate leadership and vision in the development and oversight of the Faculty’s strategy for implementing leading edge technology and infrastructure, and should have a demonstrable record of accomplishment in implementing a range of technologies. This experience should ideally be across multi-disciplinary fields, with experience of successfully developing a culture of cross Faculty and University working, innovation, connectedness across different sites, and the ability to interact with key Faculty stakeholders and partners.

The APVC role will be 0.5FTE assignment and will be a member of the Faculty Leadership Team (FLT). The overall appointment will be at 1FTE and it is expected that the post holder will engage the remainder of their time in a research area that aligns to the Faculty research strategy.
