Applications are invited for a Lecturer in Oral Biology. We are seeking an outstanding scientist and educator who will play a key role in the delivery of oral biology teaching to undergraduate dental students within Bristol Dental School, which is part of the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences. You will have research interests that align with and complement the Materials and Microbiology Research Group within the School, particularly in relation to materials or technologies to combat antimicrobial resistance in a healthcare context. You will be based in Bristol Dental School and will have access to the dedicated Materials and Microbiology Group laboratories. These laboratories provide well-equipped and staffed facilities, in close proximity to dental clinics. There is also easy access to exceptional facilities across the University (including Imaging, Cell Sorting, Proteomics and Genomics).

You will have an outstanding track record of research excellence in a domain allied to the existing research strengths and interests of the Group, evidenced in part by a strong publication record and the potential to attract research funding. You will also have a demonstrable commitment to teaching and learning of the highest standard, with knowledge of innovative and engaging educational practice.

You will be line-managed by Dr Michele Barbour, Reader in Biomaterials and Interim Head of School, and will further work closely with academics Dr Angela Nobbs, Dr Nihal Bandara and Professor Bo Su.

This Academic Pathway 1 post comprises both teaching and research commitments and these should be considered of equal importance. The expectations of the post holder are to:

Deliver engaging, clinically relevant, inspiring educational activities to undergraduate dental students in the domain of oral biology.
Conduct world-leading original research that integrates with, builds on and extends research within the Materials and Microbiology Group and across the University.
Secure funding for collaborative, multidisciplinary research and enterprise.
Publish high quality papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
Develop and run research-led teaching units based on their specialist subject and related topics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Establish partnerships with clinicians and with external stakeholders, including government, international agencies, industries and other universities.
Conduct managerial, citizenship and administrative duties associated with the above.
