Position Focus:

Under the direction of the Clinical Practice Specialist for the Department of Emergency Medicine, this position is responsible for tracking, reviewing, correcting and resubmitting a high volume of Emergency Service patient records within Epic for accurate billing and coding procedures. Communicates regularly and efficiently with physician faculty ensuring that internal QI processes are followed. Performs any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accurate account records.

Essential Duties

  1. Receives, classifies, and codes information. Reviews account records to ensure accuracy and completeness. Prepares and distributes billing statements.
  2. Obtains and provides information related to accounts, procedures, and regulations. Establishes, maintains, and reconciles account records.
  3. Reviews, logs, codes, and posts payments. Identifies and corrects errors. Totals and reconciles cash transactions daily. Monitors account records. Composes correspondence related to problem accounts.
  4. Refers delinquent accounts to supervisor and collection agencies. Researches individual accounts. May summarize findings in brief reports.
  5. Completes and processes forms. May present account information at legal proceedings.
  6. Performs clerical functions incidental to account activity.

Required Education and Experience

Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated computer experience with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proven intermediate proficiency in MS Excel with strong knowledge of spreadsheet analysis.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven ability to critically review complex information and communicate the information.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong organizational skills, ability to manage high volume projects simultaneously with interruptions and without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Proven ability to work within a team environment with demonstrated ability to maintain a pleasant, cooperative, service-oriented relationship with the campus community. Excellent attendance record and punctuality.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Proficiency with EPIC is preferred.
