Job Description Summary

The primary function of an Administrative Coordinator is to provide comprehensive support to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), including support of the convened IRBs (including screening and preparing items for the agenda, attending the meetings and taking minutes for all items scheduled and drafting correspondence to the research community to report the decisions reached by the convened board). The Administrative Coordinator is responsible for conducting and supervising data entry of protocol information and the generation of correspondence under the direction of the administrators. The Administrative Coordinator is also responsible for creating protocol files, copying correspondence and filing of all IRB related protocols and correspondence. The Administrative Coordinator will be charged with training of new Administrative Staff and oversight of Administrative Staff as needed. The Administrative Coordinator must also work with the other IRB Staff, under the direction of the Director/Associate Director to coordinate and maintain files, answer phones, and process incoming and outgoing mail.  The Administrative Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Director and Senior Level Staff with ongoing operational projects, with additional assignments as needed.  The Administrative Coordinator is expected to be able to exert judgment as it relates to the review of IRB submissions and to make and implement minor decisions related to protocol deposition under the direction of an IRB.

Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED and 2 years to 3 years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous experience working for an IRB or within human research protections is preferred, with special emphasis on research requiring convened review. Prior experience in administrative support in medical environment or university executive administration preferred. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills essential. Strong PC skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office and database programs. Experience-based, positive, problem-solving, customer service attitude toward faculty who call with questions or problems is needed.
