Applications are invited for a joint appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Law of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Engineering (Ref.: 499643), to commence on August 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Suitably qualified applicants may be considered for direct tenure at Associate Professor level.

The Faculty of Law is the longest established law school in Hong Kong. It plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia, through its various undergraduate, research postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas. It is the largest and oldest law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members drawn from more than 17 jurisdictions worldwide.

The Faculty of Engineering is one of the founding Faculties of The University of Hong Kong.  The Department of Computer Science, being the fastest developing department in the Faculty, enjoys the reputation of providing high-quality education at both undergraduate and graduate levels and conducting top-notch research in information technology. It has excellent computing resources and supporting facilities for teaching and research.

The Faculties are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate to the position of Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Law, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Faculties’ research profiles by producing high-quality research and actively participating in research communities. He/she will also be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of teaching and supervision on the Faculties’ undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, in particular on the Law, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (LITE) Programme.

This is a joint appointment between the Faculty of Law (Department of Law) and the Faculty of Engineering (Department of Computer Science), with the former as the home department.  Information about the Faculties and departments can be found at http://www.law.hku.hk/, https://engg.hku.hk/.  Applicants are expected to have obtained an undergraduate degree (or a Juris Doctor degree) and a Ph.D. in Law, Engineering, or an interdisciplinary area that crosses the two. The Faculties will also consider candidates who do not yet have a Ph.D. but who are close to completion. They are also expected to show evidence of the potential to produce internationally excellent research.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
