Stanford University is seeking a Social Science Research Coordinator to assist data collection and analysis for research project of parents’ and adolescents’ behaviors and communication using smartphones, and implications for their well-being. This project is based on the cutting-edge work in the Stanford Screenomics Lab, Human Screenome Project, where we collect smartphone data every few seconds from adults and teens over weeks and months.
This position will include work under the supervision of the principal investigator for recruiting and screening participants, obtaining informed consent and assent, tracking data collected real-time with software and surveys, corresponding with participants (adolescents and parents) for study retention and compensation, data labeling and analysis, and other tasks to successfully conduct the research. The work may also include similar activities for other projects in the research group.
Prefer college graduates with interests in research on adolescents and families, including those wishing to gain research experiences in preparation for application to graduate schools.
In this role, you will:
- Contribute to an innovative study on family communication via smartphones, with the potential to improve health and well-being.
- Gain hands-on research experience.
- Work closely with an experienced research team.
- Interact directly with study participants (adolescents and their parents).
- Conduct social science research with big data.
- Use research software to collect and organize data and study flow (e.g., excel, Qualtrics, SPSS, R, SAS).
- Learn research design principles and procedures.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four-year college degree and related experience and/or in social science studies, particularly with adolescents, families, and/or technology use.
- Experience and/or interest in conducting social and behavioral research with adolescents and their families.
- Experience and/or interest in using research software and databases including Excel, Qualtrics, SPSS/R/SAS/Python.
- Experience and/or interest in research collecting intensive longitudinal data and/or image data.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- General understanding of scientific theory and methods.
- General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
- Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with adolescents and their families.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, reach/work above shoulders, operates foot and/or hand controls, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh more than 10 pounds.
