A unique opportunity is available to make a significant contribution to the University’s student experience.  As a Professor / Associate Professor based within our Teaching Excellence Team, you will be responsible for leading strategic change on all aspects of education, learning and teaching, both quality assurance and enhancement. Two posts are available.

Working as part of a team located in Academic Registry / Student, Library and Academic Services, and directly with the Deputy Vice Chancellor and other senior academic and professional support staff, you will lead a portfolio of work to support the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy 2018/23.

This may include Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives; Assessment for Learning; Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), Employability and the development of graduate skills; Teaching Quality and Teaching Excellence; Student Voice and Engagement; professional Development for Academic Staff; Research Rich Learning.  This is not an exhaustive list and your portfolio will be agreed in consultation with you, and in line with your research and professional expertise.  The portfolio will be subject to periodic review.

The post represents a University-wide opportunity to develop and demonstrate your leadership skills in a challenger institution, one that wishes to transform the student experience for the better, enabling students to be the best they can be.  You will make a significant contribution to teaching enhancement and the student experience across the University. Operating at a strategic level you will support strategy, policy and practice across the university.  You will be passionate about supporting and promoting innovation and excellence in learning, teaching and the student experience.

You will hold an HEA Fellowship or equivalent.  Passion for and prior experience of EDI initiatives may be an advantage.

An experienced academic, you will be a Professor / Associate Professor and meet the requirements of the role.  You will also maintain your own research and academic profile in your discipline.  Your research must align to a discipline at Northumbria University.  As a Professor / Associate Professor, you will be able to demonstrate your contribution to research rich learning, and how you can enable student voice to be an enabler of academic excellence in the classroom.  To be successful in this role you will have externally recognised research outputs of a quality that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and demonstrable success in securing research funding. You should also demonstrate academic leadership, experience and strong standing with external bodies and networks in your field.
