The IT Services department is seeking to recruit a Database Administrator to work within the Platforms group, which has responsibility for the design, development, support and maintenance of the University’s mission critical IT infrastructure.  This role, within a team of technical IT staff, will work on all aspects of database administration including input into strategy, design and implementation of the University’s systems.  

You should be highly motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast paced and constantly changing environment. You will have the ability to adapt to rapid changes in the standard infrastructure that supports and delivers core services. You will need to show a high level of ability to develop your skills with the minimum of external input and be able to work in a highly autonomous fashion.  

It is important that you understand the concepts and problems of enterprise level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms working with many levels of complexity. 

You will have experience and knowledge of administrating Oracle and MS SQL Server databases on an enterprise scale, including: Oracle (11g,12c), SQL Server (2012,2014,2016).  MySQL experience would also be advantageous. 

You will also possess knowledge and experience in most of the following areas; Database related tools and utilities, Solaris, Linux and Windows operating systems, logical and physical database design and architecture, database performance tuning and monitoring, database backup and recovery, database security management, database HA architecture and configuration. 

You would be expected to work closely with the Senior Databases Administrators on all aspects of maintaining and developing the University’s mission critical databases. As such you should have knowledge and experience of running these solutions in this type of environment, including liaising with software vendors to identify and resolve technical issues.  

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential to the role. You will be at ease communicating in person, by phone and email, with the ability to communicate at all levels. You must be committed to delivering an excellent level of customer service for staff and students, while also meeting the organisation’s strategic goals and financial objectives.  

Suitable applicants must have relevant experience of supporting database systems.  ITILv3 Foundation Diploma is desirable.
