Student Financial Services  seeks leaders with financial and analytical expertise to work on a team of 8 to optimize our offerings to students via technology and outreach. Our work involves significant collaboration and coordination with offices campus-wide, active management of tools, processes, and business relationships for efficient delivery of services, and a passion for minimizing administrative burden to students to help maximize their time spent learning. Student Financial Services core purpose is to ensure accurate billing, effective payments, proper reporting, accounting and compliance; to manage student loan placements and collections; and to provide resources and guidance to University departments to ensure accurate receipting and depositing of monies; and to manage the system integrations and vendor relationships to support billing and payments. In support of that, the primary job purpose of the Student Financial Analyst is to perform a variety of regular and recurring professional accounting functions involving fiscal interpretation and analysis, reconciliations, collection placements, and reviews of multiple student accounts and transactions. This position reports to the Assistant Bursar in Student Financial Services

In your role, you will:

  • Review, process, gather and compile accounting transactions and information to summarize current financial position at the unit or organization-wide level. Construct and assemble data for decision making; develop conclusions, and present high level summary of recommendations.
  • Capture, track, and report collection activities; Oversee, reconcile, and resolve problems relative to complicated accounts.
  • Maintain and review accounting process controls; recommend and implement any approved modifications; perform preliminary analysis and recommend solutions.
  • Run and analyze financial reports, often from multiple systems; prepare management information reports.
  • Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes.
  • Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, and identify opportunities for process improvement. Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.
  • Serve as a resource to local units and other departments to resolve student third party billing and collection-related issues.
  • Assist in the management of collection activities for all tuition and loan accounts ensuring audit and compliance with Title IV and Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
  • Review and process monthly billing tasks to ensure accurate student billing.
  • Process student refunds ensuring audit and compliance of Title IV regulations for federal aid recipients.

To be successful in your role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s plus four  years of applicable experience, or combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial data analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with systems, enterprise software solutions and  how technology is used to solve business problems.
  • Intermediate proficiency in business applications such as Excel, Visio, and Word
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups. 

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • 4+ years of experience ideally with a focus on financial or higher education operations with system integrations.
  • Experience in ERP software (PeopleSoft, HigherOne, Cashnet, Oracle Financials, etc.) is highly desired.
  • Experience in Department of Education Title IV Regulations is highly desired.
