The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences are seeking to appoint an Equine Surgeon into the position of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience.

Based in our Equine Health and Performance Centre, the successful applicant will enjoy working in the close, friendly environment of a large community practice with referral services and facilities. The position will be working alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team comprising of diploma and certificate holders in Internal Medicine, Theriogenology, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Anaesthesiology and Surgery.

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences conducts teaching, research and clinical practice through its Veterinary Health Centre at the Roseworthy Campus. The Veterinary Health Centre practices have been developed to provide excellent clinical services to the public whilst educating the next generation of veterinarians. The Equine Health and Performance Centre offers excellent facilities for surgery, medicine, reproduction and diagnostic imaging. Co-located on the campus is the Companion Animal Health Centre, Production Animal Health Centre and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Located at the picturesque Roseworthy Campus, the School of AVS offers a rural setting with access to the Barossa Valley and coastal areas. It is centrally located within easy commuting distance of a range of attractive living environments.

Please note; contribution to an after-hours roster is an expectation of this position.

To be successful you will need:

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

  • Qualification in Veterinary Science acceptable for registration in South Australia.
  • Specialist training in Equine Surgery and Board Certification of the ACVS or ECVS or ANZCVS Fellowship.
  • Experience in equine surgery within a referral hospital.
  • Track record in research and publication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a teaching and clinical service team.

Associate Professor (Level D)

  • Qualification in Veterinary Science acceptable for registration in South Australia and a higher degree, preferably at doctorate or equivalent level.
  • Specialist training in Equine Surgery and Board Certification of the ACVS or ECVS or ANZCVS Fellowship.
  • Strong clinical track record and demonstrated ability to lead and develop clinical service delivery.
  • Significant experience of teaching at tertiary level with a demonstrated ability to engage senior veterinary students in developing skills in equine clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain excellent professional relationship with horse-owning clients and referring veterinarians.
