About the position 

Flinders University is committed to an effective and efficient risk management framework which assists us in achieving strategic, operational and project objectives.

The Risk and Assurance Manager is required to lead, manage, support, build and enhance the risk management capability and assurance profile of the University through the implementation of risk management, assurance and compliance frameworks, strategies, programs and projects and the provision of strategic advice and reporting on such matters.

The role includes responsibility for:

  • overseeing the development and establishment of the University’s Risk Management Framework and its effective operation across all business areas;
  • providing strong leadership, educating, training and embedding a strong culture of risk management and compliance;
  • planning and delivering the Internal Audit program, managing the University’s outsourced internal auditor, monitoring and following up on outstanding audit actions;
  • evaluating and making recommendations regarding the appropriate insurance program, dealing with and managing insurance claims and liaising with insurers and insurance brokers;
  • crisis management, critical incident and emergency management, business continuity and disaster recovery planning;
  • engaging with and reporting to Senior Management and the Audit & Risk Committee, as required.
