The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) offers programmes in the areas of History, English Literature, Media, Culture, Communication, Sociology and International Relations and Politics. You will be joining a vibrant and ambitious school that provides an outstanding learning environment for students and prioritises both excellence in teaching and supporting staff to produce impactful and high quality research of international standing. HSS is well positioned for a very strong REF 2021 performance and in the recent NSS 2018 survey the subject areas in the school scored an average of 89% overall satisfaction,  which is 6% above the sector average. Students are encouraged to be creative, enthusiastic and scholarly in their approach to learning. Their programmes of study allow them to engage in debate with a range of practitioners and cultural partners locally, nationally and internationally, demonstrating the University’s civic and global engagement agenda.

The post of Programme Leader is a senior management role within School and the person appointed will have responsibility for the overall operational management of the Media, Communication and culture programmes and line management of staff within the programme team.

You will have a strong research profile and an evidenced ability to provide leadership at programme level, including the enhancement of teaching and learning practice. You will have a key role in identifying the strategic direction of the programme at undergraduate and post graduate level and reaching out to international partners around franchise opportunities and collaborative provision. While within LJMU, and HSS, you will explore new ways to work together across cognate disciplines; in particular Sociology and International Relations and Politics. You will be a dynamic and experienced academic who is excited by a leadership opportunity that will allow you to shape the future of our students, the HSS community and the reach of the media programme on a local, national and global level.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Director of the school of Humanities and Social Science, Alex Miles: a.miles@ljmu.ac.uk

LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
