Job Summary

Responsible for supporting the plans and preparedness projects for the Institute, including the Campus Emergency Management Plan, crisis preparedness, campus outreach and education, business continuity, training and exercises. Also supports the development and maintenance of emergency preparedness and business continuity plans for departments, labs, and Centers across the Institute, and the development and implementation of preparedness and outreach programs and activities to all stakeholder groups at the Institute.

Job Duties

  • Under general direction, work on complex projects/programs and assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining programs, systems and procedures necessary to ensure maintenance of the Institute’s emergency operations and emergency preparedness, response, recovery, business continuity protocols and policies consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Support the development and maintenance of emergency preparedness and business continuity plans for departments, labs, and Centers across the Institute
  • Provide support with the planning, development, and facilitation of training for emergency responders and other identified key personnel on campus to assist all individuals who may have a key role in emergency response
  • Assist with the management and development of emergency notification messages using Caltech’s emergency notification system
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises
  • Assist with the maintenance, operation, activation, and staffing of the Caltech Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
  • Provide support at CMC meetings, events, and exercises including facilitation, preparing minutes and reports, and collecting and analyzing data
  • Develop and/or deliver employee training, emergency preparedness
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in emergency planning and preparedness that includes developing and maintaining plans and procedures and developing and implementing preparedness programs
  • Basic knowledge of emergency management and business continuity principles

Physical Demands:

  • The selected candidate will be required to stand and walk for moderate periods of time
  • Lift and carry up to 20 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 5 years of professional experience emergency planning and preparedness and continuity planning, preferably in a university setting
  • Expertise in emergency communication tools such as two-way radios, satellite phones, and mass communication systems
  • Completion of ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
