About the Role/College
The teaching programs of the Computer Science disciplines cover a wide array of pertinent areas including programming languages and methodology, software engineering, computer architecture, systems analysis and design, theory of computation, database systems, games and graphics, artificial intelligence, data communications and networks, operating systems, web-based computing, search engines, and computer and network security. Research strengths of the Computer Science disciplines include Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Distributed Systems and Internet of Things, Machine Learning, and Computer Science Education. RMIT is ranked in the 150 universities world-wide, and equal 8th in Australia, for Computer Science and Information Systems, according to the 2019 QS Rankings.
As a Research Assistant you will:
- Undertake research activities for the Australian Research Council Discovery Project Indoor Positioning with Multiple Antennas on Wi-Fi. The project will investigate effective ways to increase Wi-Fi bandwidth and discover a fundamental breakthrough in accurate indoor positioning.
- You will be responsible for conducting key tasks and producing deliverables. These include investigating signal propagation and its properties under Wi-Fi access points with multiple antennas; discovering key principles for practical system design and develop advanced algorithms to push the performance limit of indoor positioning; developing demonstration applications utilising our positioning algorithms to provide real-life validation and address practical issues for potential deployment.
As a Special Measures Female or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples applicant, you will have:
- Solid theoretical foundation, data analytics and strong system implementation skills in mobile and wireless sensing systems
- A good track record in publishing in Mobile/Ubiquitous/Wireless Communication areas
- Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.
- PhD degree in Computer Science/Wireless Communication.
