This position will be embedded within the existing meat science team, who are a multidisciplinary group principally funded by Meat and Livestock Australia and the Advanced Livestock Measurement Technologies project.  

The Role

A multi-skilled postdoctoral researcher is required for a 2-year appointment with the opportunity to extend this contract for a further 12 months. Research will be focused on designing and developing non-destructive/non-invasive microwave and x-ray technologies to measure traits of importance to the meat industry, initially including carcase composition and eating quality characteristics. The researcher will be responsible for the development of new prototype technologies, from the conceptual design stage through to industrial testing, while also working collaboratively on other projects within the group.

Skills and Experience

The preferred candidate will have:

  • A PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering and/or image analysis using machine learning algorithms and tomographic techniques, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience in developing microwave devices or x-ray systems for biomedical experiments.
  • Experience with laboratory experimental design for proof-of-concept experiments and safe practices in the laboratory, working both collaboratively and alone.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to successfully supervise honours, postgraduate and HDR students.
