ASSISTANT REAL ESTATE CONTROLLER, MIT Investment Management Company (MITIMCo), to be responsible for accounting- and finance‐related oversight with respect to MITIMCo’s high profile real estate portfolio located in Cambridge.  The portfolio has a current gross market value of approximately $3 billion, is comprised of multiple asset types, and is expected to grow significantly over the coming decade.  Responsibilities include overseeing the day‐to‐day accounting- and finance‐related activities of MITIMCO’s outsourced property manager; maintaining the integrity of MITIMCo’s real estate‐related subledgers; working with the accounting team of the outsourced property manager and MITIMCo asset management team to improve property and portfolio/pool level reporting; participating in review process of the properties in the portfolio; collaborating on developing policies/improvements to accounting and reporting practices; assisting with the review of quarterly reforecasts and annual budgets; assisting with the coordination and review of appraisals during the valuation process; participating in year‐end audit; tracking debt terms and monitoring critical dates; producing property level reporting for lender compliance requests; facilitating tax and PILOT payments; facilitating the communication and transition of properties from development to operating and vice versa; researching accounting issues for compliance; and participating in ad‐hoc projects/initiatives. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  six years’ real estate accounting experience; bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related discipline; strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); excellent critical thinking, analytical, organizational, time-management, and oral and written communication skills; comfort working through an iterative process; and ability to multitask, communicate effectively with people at all levels, resolve complex problems in a thorough and timely manner, and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
