Exciting new opportunity in Animal Behaviour

The University of Adelaide’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences has achieved impressive indicators of excellence in 11 years of operation. The School’s veterinary program leapt into the Global Top 50 in the 2019 QS academic discipline rankings and received an ERA evaluation rating at level 5 (well above international standard) in the 2019 Excellence for Research in Australia evaluation round. The School provides exceptional outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a strong research environment, consisting of world leading multi-disciplinary teams that provide opportunities for cross disciplinary research, education and innovation in animal health and welfare.

The school now invites applications for an exciting new full-time academic position in Animal Behaviour. To be appointed, the successful applicant will need to have demonstrated abilities to attract significant funding and develop a high quality research program including supervision of Honours and PhD Students. This position will also be responsible for the development and coordination of a new level 3 course (Applied Animal Behaviour Analysis) as an introduction into the Bachelor of Science (Animal Behaviour). Our school incorporates a world leading multi-disciplinary team, delivering collaborative research opportunities both locally and internationally.

You will need to be an enthusiastic, innovative and team-orientated person with a passion for delivering the highest standards of research and teaching. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be motivated to play an important role in the development of a new program. Previous experience coordinating and developing new teaching programs would be an advantage.

To be successful you will need:

• A degree in Animal Behaviour, Animal Science, Veterinary Science or equivalent.
• PhD in a field relevant to Animal Behaviour.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of applied behavioural analysis in animals.
• Demonstrated ability in teaching of animal behaviour using a comparative psychology approach.
• Strong track record of obtaining competitive research funding.
