About Us

UTS has a strongly practice-focused, experiential learning and teaching framework called ‘learning.futures’ which has enabled UTS to rethink the experience of all our students in every faculty. As part of this framework, the postgraduate.futures initiative is now reinventing the experience of postgraduate-by-coursework learners at UTS. The Postgraduate Learning Design team was established by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) in 2016 to apply these new approaches to the postgraduate coursework experience. The team has expanded to enable the rollout of transformed postgraduate courses by 2021 and to support new postgraduate initiatives in the UTS 2027 Strategy.

The Postgraduate Learning Design team sits within the portfolio of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education and Students). The DVC (ES) is responsible for leading the achievement of the University's key priorities in teaching and learning, and all aspects of the UTS student experience.

About the Role

The Learning Design Officer works with academics, media producers and other Learning Design staff to design and develop quality postgraduate teaching and learning experiences.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the design and production of a portfolio of postgraduate teaching and learning products, using pedagogical principles to develop assessments and learning sequences.
  • Balancing schedule and resources to deliver each product to an agreed standard across a set of milestones.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with university stakeholders.

Additionally, at the higher level:

  • Designing and implementing strategies for academic skills uplift and the promotion of an innovative culture of digital teaching and learning at UTS.
  • Contribute to team initiatives by taking ownership of a learning design focus area (such as accessibility or use of Augmented Reality in education).

About You

The incumbent in this role will work alongside the Postgraduate Learning Design Team and liaises with staff across all learning and teaching areas of UTS.

With examples, please outline in a separate document how you meet the following seven (7) key selection criteria points below:

  • A Higher Education degree or equivalent experience relevant to the area of learning design.
  • Understanding and experience in the application of learning design principles relevant to the Higher Education sector.
  • Some experience in the design and development of high-quality learning resources for tertiary students.
  • Familiarity with current tools and platforms that support online and blended learning.
  • Ability to establish goals, prioritise tasks, and deliver outcomes to agreed milestones and standards.
  • Some experience providing support for academics in course design and the effective use of learning technologies.
  • Some experience in maintaining productive stakeholder relationships, with well-developed negotiation, relationship building and influencing skills.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range:Base Salary Range: $70,360 to $88,371 pa (HEW 5-6)

This role attracts 9.5%superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 11 months.
