Job Details

We are seeking creative researchers who have forward-looking research programmes using inventive chemistry at the life science interface. We welcome applications across Chemistry that are imaginative and interdisciplinary but are particularly interested in researchers exploiting synthetic organic approaches.

This is an exciting time to join us in a unique opportunity to shape the future of Chemistry at one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in the UK. King’s vision is to create a contemporary department, which realises the transformative power of Chemistry at the interface with Biology and Medicine. A key part of King’s Chemistry ethos is equality, with a dynamic and fulfilling research culture for all, and an emphasis on tackling the under-representation of women in science.

We encourage researchers pioneering new directions relating but not limited to photocatalysis, green chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, materials, chemical biotechnology or that exploit microfluidic/high throughput technologies. We would like to hear from people who are keen to transform chemistry education with ideas for developing a modern organic chemistry curriculum that integrates across the discipline. You will be involved in the strategic development of a contemporary department and support a friendly working environment by inspiring academics and promoting collaborative endeavours.

We are a vibrant, collegial department. We believe a diverse and inclusive workplace delivers greater impact, so are actively seeking someone with an ability to encourage the development and contribution of diverse perspectives, approaches and talents to research and education in Chemistry and to the growth of our department.

If you are excited by this opportunity, we would like to hear from you.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.

The selection process will include a presentation and a panel interview.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role please contact Pauline Lam, Strategic Projects Manager, Department of Chemistry, on pauline.lam@kcl.ac.uk

In additional to a personal statement, please upload:

  1. Comprehensive academic CV
  2. Research statement. Please highlight your vision, what you consider to be your best research so far and let us know your approach to winning funding, leading collaborations, group supervision and publishing your research, as well as the new areas you are exploring and what gives you a competitive edge.
  3. Teaching statement including how you engage students with examples of success, and what you think the modern chemistry course should deliver to students
  4. Inclusion statement reflecting experience and future goals in promoting a climate that values diversity and inclusion, evidence of supporting others, your leadership style and how you will work constructively with colleagues

King's has an outstanding reputation for world-class teaching and cutting-edge research. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) King’s was ranked 6th nationally in the ‘power’ ranking, which takes into account both the quality and quantity of research activity, and 7th for quality according to Times Higher Education rankings. Eighty-four per cent of research at King’s was deemed ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (3* and 4*). The university is in the top seven UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £684 million.

King's has a particularly distinguished reputation in the humanities, law, the sciences (including a wide range of health areas such as psychiatry, medicine, nursing and dentistry) and social sciences including international affairs. It has played a major role in many of the advances that have shaped modern life, such as the discovery of the structure of DNA and research that led to the development of radio, television, mobile phones and radar.
