Intern - Arboretum
Job Description Summary
The Horticulture Intern receives hands-on training in all phases of garden management by assisting in the daily care and maintenance of the Arboretum's extensive
collection of accessioned plants. Specific emphasis is placed on refining practical horticultural skills. Supervisory skills are developed by directing the activities of
volunteers and seasonal staff. The Intern is also required to complete an independent study project under the direction of their supervisor.
The rate for this position is $13.10 per hour.

The position has a specified start date of June 15, 2020 and an end date of June 4, 2021.

Job Description
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate proper planting, fertilizing, and mulching of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees.
Participate in weekly educational session for interns and complete project.
Demonstrate pruning skills using CODIT philosophy and assist in formative pruning of the Arboretum's plant collection.
Display practical nursery digging skills; understand turf care basics.
Learn to properly identify weeds and implement control methods.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A strong academic background
in horticulture or closely related field preferred. Ability and willingness to: communicate with Arboretum visitors; work independently and as part of a
team; work in all weather conditions. Ability to lift at least 25 lbs is required together with a valid driver's license. A full background check will be
undertaken for the successful candidate.
