We are looking for a Security and Safety Supervisor to join our team to work across all three of our campuses and our accommodation developments on a 4 on 4 off rotation.

This is a full-time permanent position working 24/7 rotational shifts:
Two 12 hour dayshifts (7am - 7pm) and two 12 hour nightshifts shifts (7pm- 7am) then 4 days off.

The Property & Facilities Team delivers a first class service to over 1,500 staff and nearly 19,000 students. The department's focus is on managing the University's key facilities, including estates and buildings, energy and sustainability, security, cleaning, logistics, print room, sports centre, catering services, conference management and student accommodation. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a team who are at the heart of the university. 

The role

As Security and Safety Supervisor, you will supervise all security staff to deliver a positive, customer focused service throughout the University Estate, ensuring your team is highly visible and knowledgeable about the Estate and its people with an ability to communicate clearly too all students, staff and visitors. You will be responsible for ensuring your team deliver a continuously high standard of customer focused care to students, staff and visitors alike. You will play a key role in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment throughout our campuses at Sighthill, Merchiston and Craiglockhart and our student accommodation sites at Bainfield, Slateford Road and Orwell Terrace.

You will be responsible for implementing University security regulations in a customer focused manner to ensure a safe and secure environment; foot/mobile patrols; opening/locking of premises; operational control of University car parking; security of equipment, vehicles and all University premises including student accommodation buildings.

You will also be responsible for using IT systems to maintain all incident reports, patrol sheets and other documentation, ensuring that all information and records are compliant with GDPR so a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages is required.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a strong, customer service focused outlook with supervisory experience. The ideal candidate will have an approachable demeanour with a solid understanding of current student welfare, student residential life and mental wellbeing issues. Successful applicants will have demonstrable experience of working face to face with a diverse range of people in a support focused, disciplined environment; with a flexible approach to respond to situations in a positive way.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Excellent oral, listening and written communication skills to enable effective communication in a variety of situations 
  • Evidence a customer focused approach to all interactions with Students , Staff and Visitors
  • Ability to work well under pressure often to tight deadlines and demonstrating excellent personal resilience
  • Proficient use of Microsoft packages - Word, Excel and Outlook 
  • A sound understanding in General Data Protection Regulation 
  • Current driving licence 

Desirable attributes:

  • Current first aid certificate 
  • Demonstrable experience of complying with all statutory and regulatory obligations in relation to security including data protection/GDPR, Fire regulations and Health & Safety legislation
  • Experience of delivering signposting and Safeguarding if required
