About the position

The Department of Energy and Process Engineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to develop a spatially explicit model and scenarios for the Norwegian phosphorus cycle.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be involved in the project “Nutrients in a Circular Bioeconomy: Barriers and opportunities for Mineral Phosphorus Independence in Norway” (MIND-P). The goal of MIND-P is to identify pathways for making Norway independent from primary phosphorus resources by increasing resource efficiency and recycling with a focus on manure and fish sludge, the two largest sources of secondary phosphorus in Norway.

The project includes partners from agricultural sciences, aquaculture sciences, and industrial ecology, as well as an advisory board from various industry and government stakeholders.

The position reports to the Head of the Department of Energy and Process Technology, Terese Løvås. The position's supervision is by Daniel B. Müller.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Fellow will use material flow analysis (MFA) and spatially explicit modelling to address the challenges related to nutrient management and food security. The research involves developing a spatially explicit model for phosphorus stocks and flows in order to evaluate different strategies for improving resource efficiency. The model and scenarios will be developed in cooperation with partners analysing new technologies and practices for nutrient recovery, processing, and distribution, as well as barriers and co-benefits of these technologies and practices, and with relevant stakeholders from government and industry.

The duration of the position is 2-4 years.
