Job Purpose

To aid in the development, creation and deployment of learning technology solutions. The role will also support the delivery of various developments including Moodle, as well as creating high quality learning e-Learning resources. Working with various technologies, including XML, PHP, CSS and Javascript. The post holder will be at the forefront of our digital product development as we enhance our digital learning platforms, whether it be enhancing the learner experience or building tools to aid the administration of learning and assessment technologies.

Job Background

This role is to support the activities of the Digital Technology Solutions Team within BPP Professional Education. The DTS team develops, builds and supports a wide range of online services and has a diverse client base both internally and externally. The role will provide an excellent opportunity to work within a commercial development team alongside like-minded people in a supportive environment.  The post will gain valuable experience in the use of learning technologies and become a valuable member of team whilst developing new and innovative technology based learning & assessment products.

Key Responsibilities: Organisation

  • Organise the day to day scheduling requirements of the team
  • Work within an agile development environment
  • Distribute product packages to clients (online or by post)
  • Maintain records of clients & products

Content Development

  • Support the development of learning platforms
  • Populate content databases with content
  • Write and edit various coding languages such as XML, QML, HTML
  • Use rapid development tools to create bespoke content
  • Modify existing eLearning content
  • Some instructional design work

Product Support

  • Assist customer service with customer support enquiries
  • Upload content to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • Administer user access of the VLE
  • Bug tracking

Candidate Criteria Knowledge/Experience and skills required:

  • Commercial experience in the following technologies:
    • HTML/CSS/JavaScript/JQuery
    • XML/XSLT
  • Have a genuine passion for technology and education
  • Understanding and experience of content management systems
  • Experience of learning technologies including rapid development tools
  • Development of VLEs, particularly Moodle (themes, plugins, activities)
  • Experience of data entry
  • XML/HTML/CSS editing & writing
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Customer facing skills
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Flexibility in approach in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Manipulating video and audio
  • Manipulating images
  • An eLearning content development tool (e.g. Articulate, Captivate)
  • An eLearning platform (e.g. Moodle, VLE)

Desirable

  • eLearning standards (e.g. SCORM, Tin can API)
  • Agile methodologies and technologies (e.g. Scrum, Jira)
  • Code repositories (e.g. SVN)
  • Database technologies (MySQL, Graph)

Development Opportunities

DTS have been tasked with evolving the vast product range throughout the organisation and developing new and innovative solutions that can be a commercial success. This role will be a key player in ensuring those products are developed professionally and to a high standard whilst also offering front line support to various partners and clients. As the team looks to increase its visibility across the organisation, it is expected this role will grow and develop. Many training opportunities are offered in this role and it is a unique opportunity to work closely within a development team that utilising a wide range of technologies.
