About the Faculty of Arts - School of Culture and Communication

The School of Culture and Communication is a thriving research hub for critical thinking in the humanities. This agenda is led by world-leading scholars whose fields of research include literary and cultural studies, art history, cinema and performance, media and communication and Australian Indigenous studies. The School is also host to a range of funded research concentrations, such as the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, the Australian Centre, the Centre for Advancing Journalism, and the Research Unit in Public Cultures More broadly, our academics publish, speak and blog on topics as diverse as romanticism, poetry, Asian popular culture, digital media, climate change, network societies, gender and sexuality, racism, cosmopolitanism, and contemporary arts.

About the role

The Lecturer will be responsible for teaching at graduate level in these degrees and will support the CAJ director by being engaged in the continuing development of both degrees. They will assist in the development and delivery of new subjects and will be involved in the supervision of journalism projects and/or theses. An engagement with the international field of journalism, and a capacity to productively engage with and support an international student cohort, is an important aspect of this role.

About you

Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing student work to publication standard as well as demonstrated capacity for excellence in teaching, including the capacity to initiate subject development. You will contribute productively to the development and teaching of subjects in the Master of Journalism and the Master of International Journalism as Editor of The Citizen and through the Newsroom Professional Practice subject and other subjects as required. You must also have a strong record in journalism practice, of relevance to preparing students to work in local and international contexts. You must have strong industry networks, and a capacity to draw on these in support of teaching, publishing student work, and organising public programs of the Centre for Advancing Journalism.
