About the opportunity 

The primary function of the Ethics Administrator position is to carry out day-to-day operations of animal and human ethics research operations within the Research Integrity and Ethics Administration unit.

Reporting to the Animal Ethics Manager the Ethics Administrator will be responsible for:

• secretariat operations of the Animal Ethics Committee and the Human Research Ethics Subcommittee including processing and preparing general correspondence to researchers regarding the decisions of these committees
• advising on enquiries about animal and human research ethics applications and legislative requirements via email, telephone or face-to-face
• maintaining systems to ensure all information in relation to animal and human research ethics protocols including new applications, progress reports, annual review and modifications is accurately stored

About you

• tertiary education with experience; or extensive experience in administrative fields or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
• experience with servicing committees including committee processes and operations
• demonstrated good organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
• excellent computer skills including good working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Filemaker Pro (or similar) and familiarity or experience with electronic record keeping. A working knowledge of the University’s Integrated Research Management Application (IRMA) would be desirable
• experience in working with scientific or medical terminology
• knowledge of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes and/or the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans
• familiarity with and understanding of, and/or experience working in the tertiary education sector and/or research
• demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad range of people both inside and outside the University, including people from non-English speaking backgrounds
