The Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law (SABL) is an innovative collaboration of scientists, researchers, and academics designed to deliver cutting-edge education and real-world learning. The UNE SMART Region Incubator(SRI) is a Local, NSW and Commonwealth Government funded initiative to support start-ups in the New England North West region of NSW.  Founders of start-ups apply to join the SRI to grow in a friendly, focused and connected space built to join regional businesses with growth potential together with researchers, business mentors, corporate and community partners. The SRI has physical spaces in Armidale and Tamworth is currently supporting over 60 founders, bringing to market solutions for agriculture, health, the environment and creative industries.

About the role

The SRI Entrepreneur in Residence will deliver a student startup program through units of study and other forms of engagement such as hackathons and startup weekends.  The Entrepreneur in Residence will work with the SRI team to engage and support higher degree research students to explore startup opportunities.

About you

You have deep empathy for start-up founders and innovators and you know that your role is to create a focused approach to support their growth. You listen well, you know what matters to founders and what they care about. You have experience in developing a start-up or operating business and ideally have knowledge of the context of founders within a university and research environment. You are flexible and enjoy connecting with student founders, being creative and celebrating the successes and skills of others.

Skills & Experience

In this position you will actively engage with students in their learning and motivation about developing a start-up. You will also be required to design and develop subject material for online and on-campus delivery and conduct lectures, tutorials and practical classes as appropriate to start-up learning. A demonstrated ability to contribute and build a student start-up innovation ecosystem as well excellent collaborative communication and interpersonal skills are essential in the role.
