The Opportunity

  • $95,462 - $103,318 + 9.5% super and leave loading
  • Fixed-term parental leave contract to January 2021
  • Located at Kensington

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager in the Office of the PVC (Research Infrastructure) you will provide administrative and project support to the Senior Project Manager, the Director of Research Imaging NSW and to key internal and external project stakeholders, in relation to establishing the new facility and its operations. You will be responsible for project managing the implementation of the facility’s data storage and sharing platform, as well as support and manage meetings and events, procurement of research equipment and be the key support to coordinate and deliver day-to-day activities relating to the setup of the Facility.

Research Imaging NSW is a new centrally managed facility established by UNSW in collaboration with South East Sydney Local Health District / Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH). The facility will initially comprise of two Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems at POWH in a purpose-designed, newly refurbished space. The first MRI system has been fully operational since September 2019 whereas the second system will be installed mid-2020. The facility has been set up as a new core facility within the Division of Research at UNSW, in the portfolio of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Infrastructure) to support both current research and future research directions under the UNSW 2025 Strategy.

The synergy between leading academic, research and health care institutions, including the Sydney Children’s Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Women, will enable Research Imaging NSW to provide researchers with state-of-the-art imaging capabilities for world-class basic, translational and clinical research in an integrated clinical setting. The research focus will be on brain sciences and cancer. It is envisioned that the Research Imaging NSW will grow to accommodate the future research needs of its partners and their strategic alliances, for example Mindgardens and Randwick Campus Redevelopment. 

About the successful applicant

You can demonstrate your administrative and/or project management experience in a research environment, as well as:

  • Project experience and capacity to contribute to and deliver on project outcomes within agreed timeframes and with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of platforms for storage and sharing of data, in particular imaging data, and experience in project managing the implementation of such platforms would be highly regarded
  • A good understanding of operational processes that could be applied to shared research facilities, for example, processes for researcher access, booking of shared equipment, billing and human ethics approvals.
  • experience in researching and preparing background information, meeting minutes, reports, briefings and presentations with high attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with a customer service focus and the ability to liaise and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders and build strong and positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and developing area both independently and as part of a team, showing initiative, flexibility and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work to competing deadlines by strategically prioritising tasks.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
