About the Faculty of Arts - School of Social and Political Sciences

The School of Social and Political Sciences is at the forefront of teaching and research in the social sciences in Australia. About the role

The Lecturer in Sociology (Social Policy) (Level B) will be a committed, engaging teacher and researcher with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas: social research methodology and policy evaluation; poverty and inequality; youth, labour market and gender studies; work and family issues; social policy over the life course or whose work complements the existing Sociology and Social Policy profile at the University of Melbourne.

The Lecturer in Social Policy will be responsible for teaching into the Sociology undergraduate program and at the postgraduate level in the Master of Social Policy. They will supervise honours, postgraduate coursework and research higher degree theses and foster engagement links with external networks/partners nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the research reputation of the Sociology discipline in the School specifically and of the Faculty of Arts more generally and will also undertake research resulting in publications with leading publishers in the field. They will be expected to take on administrative tasks associated with the appointment and to perform these responsibly.

About you

The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in Social Policy, Sociology or a related discipline. Have a strong record of research with a developing publication profile in high quality Sociology journals. Demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching including the capacity to initiate course development. Demonstrated specialisation in the area of Social Policy that is complementary to the existing Sociology profile at the University of Melbourne. The ability to supervise honours, postgraduate coursework degree and PhD theses. Capacity to teach high enrolment undergraduate and postgraduate subjects and capacity for community engagement including building local & international networks & partnerships.
