Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering jointly held in the School of Biomedical Sciences of the LKS Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering (Ref.: 499362), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should possess: (i) a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field; (ii) evidence of international recognition and a strong record of scholarship with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines towards new research initiatives; (iii) a strong commitment to engage students in inquiry-based learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iv) a strong track record of high-quality research preferably in, but not restricted to, the following areas: biomedical engineering, biomedical devices and sensors (from biomaterials, bioinformatics to instrumentation), biomedical imaging, biophotonics, biorobotics, drug delivery and therapeutics systems, as indicated by publication record and external grants.  The appointee will support interdisciplinary teaching and learning activities in the developments and implementation of the Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering (BEng(BME)) programme.  He/She will also establish an innovative and well-funded research group that is open to interdisciplinary collaboration.  Research should be at the forefront of bioengineering.  In the course of career development, the appointee is expected to make substantial contributions to the School’s strategic developments in academic and research collaborations locally, regionally and internationally.  Information about the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering regarding their organization, research clusters, involvements in postgraduate research training and undergraduate teaching can be obtained at http://www.sbms.hku.hk/ and https://engg.hku.hk respectively.  Applicants who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref.: 493869) need not re-apply.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
