About the opportunity 

Reporting to the Manager, Safer Communities Office, you will work as a member of a collegial and high performing team.

A significant focus of your work will be to support students who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment and/or domestic violence. Other types of support needs may include mental health, psychological, personal and wellbeing difficulties. You will use a wide range of approaches and interventions including assessment, advice and information, health promotion and campus wide behavioral education programs.

You will assess students’ needs in line with current legislation, stepped care and the promotion of student wellbeing and success. You will liaise with university staff and external providers (e.g. health, mental health and other statutory or voluntary sector agencies.)

You will also assist the Director, Student Support Services in managing critical student events and ensuring appropriate case management for individual critical incidents.

About you

  • experience working with people who have experienced sexual assault or domestic violence or core professional training in an area of professional practice e.g., counselling, psychology, social work or equivalent
  • an understanding/experience of the elements of student development, wellbeing issues for students and principles of student success
  • strong and effective communication and negotiation skills including the ability to set and keep appropriate boundaries and maintain confidentiality
  • a commitment to clinical line supervision and team work
  • able to solve problems and develop plans and strategies successfully
  • experience working within the University sector with a student services focus preferred

The Education portfolio supports the development and implementation of the University’s strategy and vision for teaching and learning, and students’ educational experience.
