Job Details

Thank you for your interest in joining the University of Gloucestershire as Head of the Business School.

This is a critical role for the University of Gloucestershire that embodies our approach to integrating the delivery of business education to our students with wider goals to support business and economic development regionally. In addition to delivering programmes and research across business, management and law, our Business School is home to the Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (GFirstLEP) and Growth Hub, bringing together business, expert staff and students in a state-of-the-art new building in Gloucester. Our University in Business service unit is also embedded in the School and collectively the University, GFirstLEP and the Growth Hub play a vital role in helping local businesses grow as well as providing students with crucial industry experience, knowledge exchange and employability.

We are evolving the current School of Business and Technology into two separate Schools - the Business School and the School of Computing and Engineering. We have taken this decision to enable us to make the most of a wide range of exciting opportunities for both Schools, for which we need to strengthen our leadership capacity and focus. The new Head of the Business School will have the opportunity to lead, manage and support colleagues to further achievement in today’s competitive and challenging environment. This is an excellent career opportunity, to be in at the beginning of forming a new School in a new building, taking forward existing strengths to develop a School that is distinctive, exemplary and respected for the depth and breadth of its integration with business.

The Head of School will be a member of the University’s Academic Leadership Group, which brings together the University Executive with all Heads of School, meeting regularly to provide academic leadership for the University. As such you will play a significant part in the senior decision making of the University.

We are seeking candidates with academic backgrounds related to any one of the constituent elements of the Business School (business administration, law, accounting and finance, events and hospitality, marketing) and leadership experience gained in multidisciplinary academic environments. Direct experience of business will be a major advantage. Importantly, you will have a keen understanding of the competitive UK HE Business School climate, with proven ability to drive student recruitment, retention and satisfaction, high-quality research and practice-informed teaching, and deepen relationships with an engaged local business community.

At the University of Gloucestershire, we are dedicated to the wellbeing of our students and our community. We aspire to enable every student to achieve their full potential, through outstanding support for their learning and giving them a broad and rich experience, which prepares them well for rewarding lives and successful careers.

We pride ourselves on being an academic community which values positive human relationships, promoting belonging, and supporting individuals to flourish. In challenging times for the university sector, we continue to thrive, achieving real progress and success in student satisfaction, graduate employment and community impact.

If you are interested in developing your career at a forward-thinking, ambitious university with a real commitment to our students and our community, we look forward to hearing from you.
