About the position

The Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT) is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow for research projects within the areas of operations and supply chain management, to be hired for a period of 3 years.

The position as a Postdoctoral Fellow is a temporary position with the primary goal of qualifying for work in professional academic positions. The position will be a part of the Operations Management research group at IØT.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be supervised by Professor Heidi Dreyer and Associate Professor Jonas Ingvaldsen, and will form part of the team of researchers within operations management and organisation theory.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Fellow will primarily work on research carried out as part of the SFI Manufacturing research centre at NTNU and SINTEF and funded by the Research Council of Norway and the consortium partners, see https://www.sintef.no/en/projects/sfi-manufacturing/.
SFI Manufacturing aims to strengthen the Norwegian manufacturing industry’s ability to innovate and improve performance. The research in the centre focus on multi-material product solutions, flexible automated manufacturing and organizational processes, and carries out research in three research areas (RAs):

  • RA1:   Multi-material products and processes
  • RA2:   Robust and flexible automation
  • RA3:   Innovative and sustainable organizations

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of the research team in RA3, carrying out research related to task 3.4 which addresses manufacturing organization models. The Postdoctoral Fellow will primarily work on themes related to how digitalization affects the organization and planning of manufacturing supply chains. By overcoming the barriers of digitalization and exploiting the its potential, the research aims to contribute to theory and practice by providing new models, strategies and frameworks for organization and planning in manufacturing supply chains.

In addition to the research in SFI Manufacturing, the Postdoctoral Fellow will also contribute and other related research projects at IØT, in particular related to manufacturing, organization and digitalization.

Qualification requirements

  • The requirement for the position is a completed Norwegian PhD degree in a relevant field, a completed foreign PhD approved as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in a relevant field, or competence to an equivalent level documented with scientific work of the same amount and quality.
  • Much of the data collection will be made in Norwegian companies, and proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage. Fluent English skills, both speaking and writing, are essential.
  • The candidate must have experience with qualitative studies and methodologies
  • Applicants must have published their research in recognized international journals within the field. Emphasis will be placed upon scientific work published during the past three years with relevance for the topic of the position.

Additionally, candidates with the following qualifications will be preferred:

  • Can document experience with engaging companies and organizations in her/his research, and creating an impact on business and industry
  • Has created an own research agenda and an academic network
  • Can show a high level of engagement in pursuing the research theme in manufacturing and digitalization

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Working conditions

The appointment is in accordance with the regulations of State Employees and Civil Servants. We expect the employee to accept possible changes in work tasks, and to be present at, and available to, the institution.

Primary residency in Trondheim is a prerequisite.

Some travelling is required to fulfil the responsibilities of this position.
